Before we get started, do me a huge favor and sit down and work out your weekly expenses, the rent/mortgage, food, car, telephone, services, clothes, shoes, presents for the grandchildren, holidays and everything else that you need to live life today.
The reason for this is so you can see if you would be able to live on the Pension. You will find you will need to start adjusting your lifestyle by budgeting each and every way trying to live within the Pension income.

I'll tell you a true story- I was living in Queensland and my mother who was on the pension at the time, was living in Melbourne. My father had past away 10 years ago previously and I used to send my mother $100 per month just to help her out. My mother always used to come and see me in Queensland because she loved the weather, but she would never consider moving away from the home. This one time I decided to visit my mother in Melbourne.
THE BIGGEST SHOCK OF MY LIFE- (REALITY)
I got to my mothers home and the fences on all sides were broken and leaning to the side. The balcony had a hole through the floor boards right before the front door. The house was weatherboard and had cracks through the whole house internally. To top it off, the fridge had broken down and my mother had a bar fridge with a small container of milk inside. The old stove only had one element working and all the wires were burnt out. My mother would cook a large meal and keep it for the next couple of days to avoid wearing out the one element.
I dont know if your mother is the same as mine but she would never complain or say one thing about her situation, I could never imagine my mother living in this surroundings. My heart just dropped to the floor, how we didnt realize all this, and as for my mother as stubborn as she is, I just couldnt beleive my eyes. When I asked her, "Why didn’t you tell us?", she replied- "I know your working hard I couldnt bother you. With the money I get from the Pension how can I pay the rates, electricity everything else and maintain the house?"
If you want to make a person feel like they have nothing to live for and lose their happiness, personality and the dignity of being a human being, take them from working and comfortably providing for the family all their life, then put them on the minimum pension, then wait and see what happens to them.
THE SCARY THING ABOUT THIS STORY IT'S HAPPENING ALL AROUND US - My father passed away 4 years into retirement, now I know why...
On the positive side to the story, we replaced the fences, re-stumped the house, patched and repainted all walls both internally and external. My mother has also a new oven with the glass top which makes cleaning easier and brand new fridge plus we purchased a new bed and furniture plus beautiful decoration right through her home.
Mum calls home her a Palace now, she loves bringing all her friends home for coffee plus she has a new Mercedes for Christmas from my brother.
She is worth every bit of it.
The sad side of this story is there are people in a bad situation right now and people heading that way if they dont start to do something about their future. Don't take it for granted do something, make your future brighter by investing and making your money work for you.
