Dalby is a town in the Darling Downs region of Queensland, Australia, and is located approximately 210 kilometers west of the state capital, Brisbane, with an estimated population of 13,000. The most widely held theory of how Dalby got its name is that it is named after the "pretty little town" of Dalby situated near the west coast of the Isle of Man, about five miles from the ancient city of Peel in the United Kingdom.
Industry in Dalby includes large scale engineering, coal mining and fuels (ethanol), being the site of the first dry mill grain-to-ethanol plant constructed in Australia. Dalby is also the centre of a diverse and productive agricultural centre with rich black soil allowing production of crops such as wheat, cotton and sorghum. Livestock raising including pigs, cattle and sheep is also popular. Two cotton gins are situated within 10km of the town. Dalby has a Sister City named Fukaya in Saitama Prefecture, Japan.
